Online group volunteer
“I have enjoyed my time immensely volunteering with Dyscover. I am hoping to become a Speech and Language Therapist, so this year of experience is highly beneficial. I really enjoy the atmosphere in my Zoom group, the friendliness and support of the staff & other volunteers. The staff are always there if the volunteers ever need anything. It’s a great way to experience and learn about an area of SLT which will aid me in further study. The training gave a good introduction to what aphasia is and some good techniques to use in the sessions. I feel I have gained a lot of clinical knowledge about aphasia and more importantly some skills on communicating with people who have it.”

Kingston and online group volunteer
“I had some time available, and I was looking to help in my local community when I came across Dyscover. I was very interested in their work as my father-in-law has aphasia and I know what a positive impact conversation provides. I started volunteering with the Kingston group and now support an online group each week, which I really enjoy.
I absolutely love volunteering for Dyscover, I can see what an enormous difference the groups have on the beneficiaries and their carers. The regular volunteer meetings are useful as it’s a good way to stay in touch with the other team members. I am very proud to be part of the Dyscover team and regularly try to attend and support fundraising events!”

Ambassador and Activities Volunteer
“I joined Dyscover as a beneficiary, attending a weekly group. I found the support that I received so beneficial that I was keen to help other people with aphasia and to raise awareness. I have helped to run conversation groups and I am an aphasia ambassador, I give presentations to local community groups, sharing my experience of having aphasia and how Dyscover has helped. I support fundraising events and now volunteer to run a weekly online reading group. In addition, I am also part of the volunteer gardening team that maintains the garden at Dyscover’s head office.”
