Case Studies

Trish Henson

Trish was working as a manager when she had her stroke in 2002. She was 45 years old. She was unconscious for two days at first and remembers hearing the first devastating words her husband Ian spoke, “Trish, you have had a stroke”. She spent three months in hospital and a further six months in rehabilitation. When She was discharged she felt isolated and depressed. She lost her confidence and she was scared of meeting people. She spent a lot of time watching television.

When she joined Dyscover she met other people with Aphasia and her confidence slowly improved. Her speech began to get better too. Trish has made some good friends and takes part in the many activities that are on offer both inside and outside the centre e.g. horse riding, sailing, outward bound, art, cookery, yoga and swimming. “Now I am much more independent and I am able to drive and go swimming again”. Trish also loves spending time with her grandson Spencer.
